February 10, 2009, (Mason City, IA) – Elderbridge Agency on Aging has been awarded a $9,800 grant from Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) and the Wal-Mart Foundation to support our local programs in doing what we do best - feed seniors. 

This past year, many nutrition programs were forced to change or reduce their services, because of severe operating constraints brought on by rising food and gas prices and the current economic crisis.  The “MOWAA/Wal-Mart Foundation Cure Grant” is intended to help alleviate these burdens for Elderbridge Agency on Aging and help us restore our nutrition services to better serve our seniors in North Central Iowa.

Mason City Wal-Mart Teams with Elderbridge to Address Senior Hunger

Stewart Anderson, Mason City Wal-Mart Super Store Manager, and Linda Berghoefer, Elderbridge Nutrition Coordinator, hand a two-meal emergency meal pack to Val Sliger, Mason City Senior Activity Center Director, for distribution to area seniors.

The Cure Grant Program was initiated to help restore nutrition services and prevent senior hunger.  The grant received by Elderbridge Agency on Aging will provide two meal emergency meal packs to 32 seniors served at the Mason City Senior Center Activity Center.  In total, Elderbridge will be able to provide 240 emergency meal packs and 5,100 hot meals across its 20-county area as a result of the MOWAA/Wal-Mart Foundation Cure Grant.
